Srinagar, Jul 01 (KNS): Though Jammu and Kashmir is yet to enter into Goods and Services Tax (GST), at least 40,000 traders here have received the GST PIN number, which will be later used for their registration under the new tax regime.
Additional Commissioner Commercial Tax, Shameem Ahmad told KNS that the department has sent details of around 73,000 dealers for the GST PIN number. “We have received at least 67,000 PIN numbers of trade dealers so far while the remaining are yet to be received,” he said.
Ahmad informed that nobody has applied for the GST registration yet in the state. “The traders can apply only after the tax law will be implemented in the state,” he said.
He said that out of total 67,000 traders, over 40,000 dealers including Kashmir Traders and Manufacturing Federation (KTMF) president, Muhammad Yasin Khan, have received their PIN number.
He said that PAN details of most of the dealers were incorrect and they were asked to provide their details again. “The dealers including Yasin Khan were asked to provide their correct PAN details again for the GST PIN number. They provided their details while several have received their PIN number,” he said.
“The long queues of dealers are being witnessed outside the office here, who are collecting their GST PIN number,” he informed KNS.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Giving details about the GST TIN number, he said that the PIN number which the dealers have received will be used for an online portal where the traders can migrate their businesses to GST. “The traders on the portal can get their Application Reference Number (ARN), which will be used for the GST registration,” he said.
Meanwhile, KTMF president, Muhammad Yasin Khan while rejecting the visit to sales tax department said that he has been paying the tax since long via online. “I have never visited tax office so far. This all is being circulated to defame my position and image,” he said.
“If the officials claim that over 40, 000 dealers have so far received the PIN number then why are they pin-pointing me only,” he said, adding that this all is being done on “someone’s” directions.
“They are pinpointing me because I am against the One India One Tax. They know that I have some position, so they want to defame me here,” he said, adding that he will continue to raise his voice against the GST implementation in the state.
“If the government wants to implement it here then it should be modified according to the JK’s constitution,” he said. (KNS)
