Srinagar, Jun 21 (KNS): Four local militants were killed in two separate encounters in Pulwama and Sopore areas of the Kashmir Valley in the last 24 hours, police said here on Tuesday. 

An official told Kashmir News Service (KNS) two militants were killed in an encounter Tujjan village of Pulwama district. 

The slain militants were identified as Abid Ahmad Sheikh of Barpora Pulwama and Majid Nazir Wani of Banpora Pampore and were affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit. 

Majid, according to Police, was involved in the killing of sub-Inspector Farooq Ahmed Mir. 

Similarly, in Sopore two recently joined local militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit were killed in an encounter in Tulibal village. 

The militants were identified as Zahid Ahmad Chopan of Tengwani Shopian and Mohd Youns Gul of Washbugh Pulwama.

The official said that incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 02 AK-47 rifles & 04 Magazines were also recovered from the encounter site. 

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Kashmir zone, Vijay Kumar said that in the current year 118 militants have been killed including 32 foreign militants. 

"Out of 118 killed militants, 77 are from Lashkar-e-Toiba and 26 from Jaish-e-Mohammad outfits,” he said, adding that in the year 2021 total 55 militants including 2 foreigners were killed in the same period. (KNS)
