3 Bandipora students selected for National School Games in Handball under-14

Bandipora, Dec 27(KNS): From a modest private school in north Kashmir, three young students under-14 have earned a place on the national sporting stage.

The student players, including Kaifa Mohi Uddin (Class 8), Sabiha Bashir (Class 7) and Tanzeela Akbar (Class 6) of Global Wisdom Model Private School have been selected to represent Jammu and Kashmir at the National School Games in Handball (Under-14), to be held in Chittogarh Rajasthan under the School Games Federation of India in January.

The trio cleared a rigorous selection process, progressing through zone, district, division and UT-level championships, and have already won medals for J&K at district and state levels. They have been training consistently for nearly a year, balancing academics with intensive practice since April.
“When we heard our names in the final national list, it was an emotional moment,” said Tanzeela Akbar. “Our Global Wisdom School (GWS) and the coaches from District Youth Services and Sports, Bandipora, pushed us to believe we could reach this level.”

Kaifa redited long hours on the field for their success.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“We often stayed for long hours in the playground till dusk after school to train ourselves. Managing studies and sports was difficult, but the hard work paid off,” she said.

"I am thankful to my parents and the principal of our school who gave us a chance to play at national level. We have never been barred from sports which is in my blood(laughs),"Sabiha Bashir tells KNS.

All the players are being trained by the District Youth Services and Sports, Bandipora.

Abdul Hamid Dar, principal of Global Wisdom Model Private School, called the selection a proud moment for the institution and the district. “Our goal is to develop students who excel both academically and in sports. This achievement shows that even young schools can produce national-level talent,” he said.

Less than a decade old, the school’s success underscores how commitment, coaching and parental support can help talent flourish, even in the most unassuming settings.(KNS).
