SSP Traffic thank participants of week long programme

Srinagar, Jan 15 (KNS): Traffic Police City Srinagar on Sunday concluded the “Observance of 28th Road Safety week-2017” with the theme “Your Safety, Secures Your Family, Be Cautious on Road”.
According to the statement issued to KNS, the Week started with an inaugural function on Jan 9 in which DC Srinagar and SSP Traffic City Srinagar amongst other participants flagged off a Car Rally from Hotel Management Complex Rajbagh which cruised through important roadways of Srinagar City to disseminate traffic awareness and Education amongst commuters.
“Throughout the day SSP Traffic City Srinagar held counseling sessions with vulnerable target groups at various traffic junctions with the aim to bring home the importance of road discipline and cooperation of commuters paramount to streamline traffic in City Srinagar,” the officials said.
They said that the inaugural day was followed by Traffic awareness and education campaign against visible offences in City Srinagar viz. without wearing Crash Helmet/Seat Belt, Overloading, Wrong parking, intermittent stop by PSVs, Road encroachment et al.
“During the drive chronic violators were apprehended and counseled on spot about the various Do’s and Don’ts while driving and right of way for all. During the drive sweets were distributed amongst the commuters to garner their cooperation and support and as a message of good-will and also for better police-public relations. Pedestrians who were using road instead of footpaths were also counseled on the occasion and appreciated,” the official statement reads.
The statement reads that on the 3rd day of the Safety Week, in its continued bid to reach out to the target groups, Traffic Police City Srinagar organized a ceremonial March Past of traffic cops with the support from J&K Police Pipe Band who enthralled the commuters and pedestrians by their melodious tunes.
“The March Past passed through the historical Lal Chowk and culminated at Traffic Police Office City Srinagar where participants were served with the refreshment. In the afternoon, SSP Traffic City Srinagar interacted with the scholars and academicians at historical S.P College, Auditorium highlighting various traffic related issues confronted by Traffic Police and sought their cooperation in streamlining traffic in City Srinagar by their valuable suggestions and inputs,” the official statement added.
The officials said that on 12th of January-2017, Traffic Police City Srinagar continued its efforts to rope in maximum participation of commuters and road users initiated a special drive at all important traffic junctions in City Srinagar. “In its continued gesture throughout the week, Traffic Police under the supervision of SSP Traffic City Srinagar appreciated and applauded the commuters who were carrying proper documentation of their vehicles coupled with the obedience to road safety rules viz.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channelwearing Seat belts/Crash Helmets were presented with sweets and on spot commendation certificates. The drive continued throughout the day and counseling sessions with erring drivers were conducted, besides distribution of traffic awareness and education material amongst the commuters,” they said.
They said that on 13th January, Traffic Police City Srinagar organized a medical camp at Traffic Police Lines, Srinagar in which a team of doctors from Police Hospital, Srinagar conducted on spot medical checkup of traffic cops, PSV drivers, conductors etc.
The purpose of the programme according to the officials was to bring whom to the commuters the necessity of fitness while driving a vehicle. “Medicines were also distributed amongst the needed on the occasion,” the statement added.
On 14th of January-2017, a seminar was held at General Bus Stand Batmaloo, Srinagar where target groups were invited viz, Kashmir Motor Transport Association Members, Drivers, Conductors, Mechanics, Automobile dealers, Hawkers, Vendors etc. in which Addl. SP Traffic City Srinagar deliberated upon various traffic issues with particular reference to the congestion scenario in and around BatmalooBus Terminal and its implications on the overall traffic scenario.
The cordial response exhibited by the target groups on the occasion was encouraging and cooperative. Various issues were discussed and participants assured traffic authorities on the occasion of their full support and cooperation to streamline the traffic in City Srinagar. The gathering on the occasion was encouraging and responsive and publicity material including pamphlets, stickers were distributed on the occasion.
On the concluding day of 28th Road Safety Week, today on 15th of January-2017, SSP Traffic City Srinagar thanked all the participants including NGO’s who actively participated in the week long programme and distributed commendations certificates on the occasion. Since, it was a Sunday the Sunday Market along the periphery of TPO Office was abuzz with customers/commuters and an opportunity was availed to sensitize all the road users on the occasion, a team of cops laced with traffic awareness and publicity material was deployed along the market to disseminate and distribute traffic awareness material which received a good response.
SSP Traffic City Srinagar is highly thankful to all stakeholders who actively participated in a week long observance programme of 28th Road Safety Week and without whose co-operation it would have not been possible which include both print and electronic Media, NGO’s, Transporters, Hawkers, Vendors, Pedestrians etc. (KNS)
