Two youth were seriously injured in Pulwama on Friday after police fired at a stone-pelting youth, which has gathered to participate in the funeral of slain Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Talib Shah alias Abu Umar killed in an encounter with forces a day before.
Meanwhile, complete shutdown was observed in Pulwama town and in Kakapora, where adequate security arrangements were put in place to prevent situation going out of hand, said police.
KNS correspondent said that a huge gathering of people participated in the funeral prayers of slain Lashkar commander which was held in a courtyard of a local school in Kakapora. He said that despite declared and undeclared curfew in Kakpora and its adjoining villages, people in large numbers took part in the funeral prayers amid vociferous pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Reports said that the sporadic clashes between youth and police continued throughout the day in various areas of Pulwama district including Kakpora, Lalhar, Samboora, Newa, Ratnipora and other nearby areas. Police used teargas shells and pellet guns to disperse the agitating youth, who were pelting stones at the men in uniform. Eyewitnesses said that as the stone pelting got intensified in area, police fired live bullets which resulted in serious injuries to two youth who were later shifted to Pulwama Srinagar for treatment. The injured were identified as 22-year Owais Ahmad of Ratnipora and 20 year old Lateef Ahmad of Lalhar village.
SP Pulwama Tejinder Singh confirmed to KNS that two youth were injured due to pellets, however, he refused to admit that live bullets were fired at youth.
