Says their aim was to engage maximum forces in order to sabotage PM's visit to Samba, disturb peace in Jammu

Srinagar, Apr 22 (KNS): Director general of police Dilbag Singh on Friday said that two JeM militants killed in Jammu operation were wearing suicide vests and it seems they were tasked to target security installation in the area.

Talking to reporters, DGP said that last night acting on a specific input about presence of militants in Sunjwan area, search operation was launched by the army and CISF. "During the search operation, the militants fired upon security forces in which one ASI of CISF identified as S P Patil was killed while four other received injuries," he said.

He said that both the militants were from Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit and were wearing suicide vests and it seems they were tasked to target security installations in the area to engage maximum forces to inflict maximum casualties but timely action foiled their nefarious design.

On being asked whether the attack was aimed to target PM Modi's rally, DGP said that as of now there are no inputs to suggest that they were planning to attack PM rally at Samba.

"It seems that this was a fresh infiltration as there is no information available them for now. It was part of a larger conspiracy to disturb peace in Jammu and to sabotage Prime Minister's visit to the region. There aim was to engage us as we were busy in arrangements for big event of PM Modi, so it seems this was aimed at sabotaging the event," DGP said.

Replying to query, DGP said that three AK47 rifles, huge cache of ammunition including grenades, magazines, energy drinks were recovered rom their possession and they were also wearing suicide vest, which are normally being carried by Fidayeens.

On being asked about the presence of more militants in the area, he said that inputs suggest only these two militants were present in the area. (KNS)
