Sopore, Jun 05 (KNS) : Ist Waseem Memorial Football tournament was inaugurated in Krankshivan Colony ground in Sopore town on Sunday.
At least 32 teams will be participating in the tournament. The tournament is being organised by Arif Dar, a known footballer of town Sopore.
The inaugural match of the tournament was played between Khushal FC and Sopore Eleven, in which Khushal FC defeated the Sopore Eleven by 0-1.
While speaking on the occasion, Arif welcomed and thanked all the players of different teams participating in the tournament and citizens who came to witness the inaugural match.
"The tournament is being organised with the motive to keep youths away from social evils particularly drug menace", Arif said to Kashmir News Service (KNS).
Stressed upon the youth to take part in sports activities instead of using their energy in negative activities, Advocate Mehraj u Din said, that the sports activities in the area can help in keeping the youth healthy and positive.
The organizer has done a commendable job. By this initiative, the younger generation especially the sportspersons would also come to know about the contribution of Waseem Ahmed, he said.
On the occasion, number of sports lovers and prominent citizens witnessed the opening match.(KNS)
