Jammu, Dec 31 (KNS): Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh on Saturday said that 186 militants including 56 foreigners were killed in anti-militancy operations in Jammu and Kashmir this year. He however claimed that the outgoing year was the most peaceful year on the security front as compared to last four years.

Speaking on the achievements in year 2022, the DGP in his year ender press conference in Jammu told reporters that J&K Police along with other security agencies killed 186 militants including 56 foreigners this year. “The J&K Police in tandem with other security agencies carried out large scale anti-militancy operations across J&K in which 186 militants including 56 foreigners were killed. Among the slain most of the militants belonged to LeT and JeM”, the DGP as per KNS said.
 
He said almost 100 youth joined militant ranks this year in which 17 were arrested while as remaining were neutralized. “Just 18 are left who will also be eliminated soon”, the DGP said and added, “The 2022 saw lowest militant recruitment in past four years”.
 
He said J&K Police and other security agencies utilized every possible effort in the outgoing year to prevent gullible youth from joining militant ranks and in this regard many youth were prevented and handed over to their families after proper guidance and counseling. 
Talking on year 2023, the DGP said that new year resolution of police for the year 2023 will be Mission Zero Terror and prime focus will be on to wipe out the “terror eco-system wherever it exists in J&K”.
He said in 2022 the security agencies busted 146 militant modules in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir. He also said that 188 weapons including AK 47 riffles, 275 pistols, 354 grenades, 61 grenades, 61 IEDs including some ready to use that were drone dropped were recovered. He at the occasion congratulated police and other security agencies for successfully foiling the drone dropping bids of weapons in Jammu region and seizing huge quantity of weapons.
On casualties, the DGP said that as compared to previous years the security forces faced less damage in 2022.
 
“Fourteen policemen and seventeen security forces personnel were killed in 2022 which however is lowest ever. Besides civilian casualties were also less”, he added.
The DGP said that 55 vehicles and 28 houses were seized for being commissioned to support militancy. “649 persons were booked under PSA for supported militancy”, the DGP said.
 
He said the J&K Police has taken every possible measure to curb the trade of drugs which is being pushed from across the border. “The security agencies bused several drug peddling modules. 1693 cases were registered, 212 kg’s of heroine, 383 kg’s of charas, 12 kg’s of brown sugar and huge quantity of other substances were seized in year 2022”, he added.
 
While commending the job of investigative agencies to root out the militancy and its eco-system, the DGP said “We have established SIU in every district of J&K for fast track disposal. We are investigating 1350 cases registered under UAPA Act. The agencies work in this regard is praiseworthy”, he said. (KNS)
