15 days on, Handwara village reels under darkness, authorities unmoved

Langate April 03 (KNS): The residents of Hampora Qaziabad village of north Kashmiris Kupwara on Monday alleged that they have ben reeling under darkness for the last more than 15 days after damage to 250 KV transformer. 


Locals told Kashmir News Service (KNS) said that around 80 households are without electricity for the last 15 days as the transformer got damaged and the department has failed to repair it. 

They said that there are around 150 households in the village, out of which around 80 are one our transformer rest are on other four transformers because they are influential. 

"An equal distribution of households on 5 transformers may add long life to our power transformers, but wrong distribution by PDD department is leaving us in complete darkness," they added. 

They said even in the month of Ramadan they are without electricity for the last many days. "Our mosques are without water, we are facing trouble, but the administration is unmoved and not paying any attention to our woes," said a local resident. 

When contacted executive engineer PDDHandwara Shamim Ahmed said that due to overload the transformer is getting damaged repeatedly. "We have clear directions from the higher ups not to provide new transformer to them, if they are repeatedly damaging it," he said. 

He added that they are looking into the issue and it will be resolved at an earlies. (KNS)
