15,000 Evacuated in 48 Hours Amid Shelling in Uri

Uri, May 19 (KNS): In a remarkable humanitarian effort, the administration in Sub-Division Uri successfully evacuated around 15,000 people within 48 hours following intense cross-border shelling earlier this month.

On May 7, a 24×7 Emergency Control Room was set up at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Uri under the supervision of SDM Uri. A dedicated team, including Javid Gani Banday, Aijaz Ahmad Lone, Javed Iqbal Budoo, Aftab Ahmad Kakroo, Aijaz Ahmad Chalkoo, and Mohammad Iqbal Banday, led the evacuation and relief operations.

Yasir from the Jammu & Kashmir Police played a key role in maintaining law and order during the evacuations. The Control Room received thousands of distress calls, which the team responded to promptly despite ongoing shelling and high-risk conditions.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The operation was supported by multiple departments—revenue, police, health, civil defence, and local volunteers—ensuring safe relocation of vulnerable groups, including women, children, and the elderly.

Officials remained focused on saving lives, working selflessly and without seeking recognition. Their efforts have been widely appreciated across Uri and the Kashmir Valley.

As the situation begins to stabilize, the operation stands as a powerful example of courage, teamwork, and dedication to public service.(KNS)
