14 Dead After Consuming Spurious Liquor in Amritsar, Key Accused Arrested

Chandigarh, May 13 (KNS): At least 14 people have died and six others have been hospitalised after allegedly consuming spurious liquor in Punjab’s Amritsar district, police said on Tuesday.

The deaths were reported from five villages — Bhangali, Patalpuri, Marari Kalan, Therewal, and Talwandi Ghuman. Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney confirmed the casualties.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Maninder Singh said authorities received information about multiple deaths around 9:30 pm on Monday. "We acted immediately, rounding up four individuals. The main supplier, Parabjeet Singh, has been arrested, and based on his confession, the kingpin Sahab Singh has also been taken into custody," he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Investigations are underway to trace the source and distribution network of the illicit liquor. Raids are ongoing, and the Punjab government has directed strict action against all those involved.

Two FIRs have been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Excise Act.

"This unfortunate incident has claimed 14 lives so far, and six victims remain hospitalised," Singh added.(KNS)
