10,000 new admissions in recently concluded enrollment drive in Kupwara, number less than of previous year

Kupwara April 09 (KNS): In the recent concluded drive, the government-run-schools across District Kupwara have received an overwhelming response from the parents as more than 10 thousand new admissions were recorded in all 1442 schools of the district.

The official figures accessed by Kashmir News Service (KNS) reveals that in the recent enrolment drive concluded in district Kupwara, 9713 new students have been enrolled so far across the 1142 schools in the district wherein the student enrolment has increased by 7.28 percent.

The figures reveal that the highest percentage of new admissions was recorded in Handwara and Khumriyal zones where each zone has recorded around 1500 new admissions, thus these two zones received overwhelmed response compared to other 11 zones.

Similarly zone Drugmulla and Chamhkote have received poor response from parents in the on-going enrolment drive, as the new admissions restricted below 400.

It states that before the enrolment drive, there were a total of 133441 students enrolled in government-run-schools of the district. However, after the drive, the district has recorded over 9713 new admissions.

Compared to previous year the district secured first rank by enrolling 27,000 students in the district, however this year number remained confined to 10 thousand only. The parents also citing the reason of poor infrastructure of several government schools across the district, like lack of drinking water facility, playground, compound fence, defunct washrooms, school buildings with broken windows and doors.

Chief Education Officer, Kupwara Abdul Hamid Fani said there is some genuine reasons behind such huge enrollment drive which we need to understand. Previous year we have topped and most of the new admissions were age group of 4-5, so there is no student left this year too. Besides, the students from other private schools also prefer now government schools, he asserted.

This year we would be at 3rd position, and I congratulate the zone Handwara and Khumriyal for their good performance as these two zones would be appreciated based on their performance. He said the poor performed zones would be also taken into consideration. The CEO also urged parents that enrol your children in government schools, as he believes that the government has updated facilities in government run schools.

While hailing the ‘Zimdari Project’ launched in previous year by DC Kupwara, he said that the district is shining with the help of this project across the UT, as it is an innovative concept appreciated by masses and teachers to transform the education sector in the district. (KNS)
