04 drug peddlers arrested in Handwara, Kulgam; contraband substance recovered

Handwara/Kulgam June 16 (KNS): Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested 04 drug peddlers in Handwara & Kulgam and recovered contraband substance from their possession.

In Handwara, officers from Police Post Magam at a checkpoint established at Khanpora Magam intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK13B-4500 with three persons on board. They have been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Mir son of  Mohammad Sultan resident of Puwama, Hilal Ahmad Rather son of Abdul Rashid and Sajad Ahmad Bakshi  sons of Gull Bakshi both residents of Chogal. During checking, officers were able to recover 1.70Kgs of Charas and cash amount of ?10,730/- from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

Accordingly, a case FIR No. 189/21 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Handwara and investigation has been initiated. It is pertinent to mention here that all the three accused persons were busy in inter district trade of drugs.

In Kulgam, officers at a checkpoint established at Mirhama under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Kulgam intercepted a person riding on a motorcycle bearing registration number JK18B-8001 identified as Showkat Ahmad Zargar son of Bashir Ahmad Zargar resident of Lirow. During checking, officers were able to recover 200gms of Charas from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, a case FIR No. 141/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Kulgam and investigation has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
