Srinagar, Jun 22 (KNS): A literary event “YUWA SAHITYA” was organised by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, in collaboration with the Department of Linguistics, University of Kashmir, today on June 22, 2019, at the Department of Linguistics, University of Kashmir. The event was attended by faculty members from the different departments of the university and from the various colleges of the valley.
The dignitaries present in the presidium included Dr. Aziz Hajni, Convener, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, Prof. Aejaz Mohammed Sheikh, Head, Deaprtment of Linguistics, University of Kashmir, and Dr. Sadaf Munshi, Faculty at the Department of Linguistics, University of North Texas.
The other dignitaries who attended the event included Prof Bashar Bashir and Prof. Farooq Fayaz, a good number of poets and writers, scholars and students.
Dr. Aziz Hajni, Convener, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, formally welcomed the guests and highlighted the issues facing the contemporary writers. Dr Hajni also lauded the Department of Linguistics for positively responding to all the proposals for organising various events on Kashmiri language and literature.
The invited writers/poets who presented their write-ups include Dr Nisar Nadeem, Dr Sahil Abbas, Dr Shaista Ahmad, Sagar Nazir, Parvaiz Gulshan, Monisa Aslam Darvesh and Shabir Magami. The write-ups and the poems covered a wide range of themes and mesmerized the audience.
Professor Bashar Bashir, Professor Farooq Fayaz and Dr Sadaf Munshi also spoke on the occasion.
Prof. Aejaz Mohammed Sheikh, Head Department of Linguistics, presented the vote of thanks and elaborated on the importance of organising such events for the enrichment and progress of Kashmiri language.
Prof. Sheikh spelled out the achievements of the department and highlighted the work done by the department on the languages of Jammu and Kashmir, especially the Kashmiri Language and the endangered and the lesser known languages.
Dr Shaista Ahmad, Member, Kashmiri Advisory Board, conducted the proceedings of the event. (KNS)
