Mumbai July 21, (KNS): Mohit Suri’s latest romantic drama Saiyaara has made a powerful impact at the Indian box office, collecting over ?80 crore (net) in its opening weekend. Starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, the film has emerged as a surprise blockbuster and one of the highest-grossing debuts in Bollywood history.
According to box office estimates from Sacnilk, Saiyaara earned ?21 crore on Friday, followed by ?25 crore on Saturday. The film saw its biggest jump on Sunday, raking in ?37 crore, bringing its three-day total to an estimated ?83 crore.
This strong opening places Saiyaara among the top 5 Bollywood opening weekends of 2025, behind only big-budget films like Chhaava (?121.43 crore), Housefull 5 (?91.83 crore), and Sikandar (?86.44 crore).
The film's Sunday occupancy rate stood at 71.18%, with evening shows witnessing up to 88.15% capacity in Hindi-speaking regions. Beyond expectations, Saiyaara has now surpassed the lifetime India net of Student of the Year (?70 crore) and is close to overtaking Dhadak (?95.12 crore). It has also outperformed opening records of Mohit Suri’s previous hits like Ek Villain (?16 crore) and Aashiqui 2 (?6.1 crore).
Director Mohit Suri has credited the film’s success to its emotional honesty. “In love, there will be pain… If love is not real, it’s not felt. I believe in it more than I fantasise about it,” he said in an interview.
The film has also outshined several Hollywood releases. It has already passed the collections of Superman and is close to overtaking Jurassic World Rebirth (?86.6 crore in two weeks).
With its massive weekend performance, Saiyaara now holds the record for the biggest opening by a film starring debutants. All eyes are on the film’s weekday numbers to see if it can continue its historic run.(KNS)
