HC directs SSP to produce status of inquiry, issues notice to Govt

Srinagar, Dec 19 (KNS): J&K High Court Monday issued directions to the Senior Superintendent of Police Anantnag to produce status of “inquiry” in the killing of Sajad Malik, an ex-sarpanch of Congress who was allegedly killed in Dooru area of Anantnag in south Kashmir.
The court also issued notice to the government which was received by Advocate General.
“The family members of Malik approached Judicial Registrar of HC. The children from the age group of 5 to 12 had come up with some written applications, seeking judicial probe in the killing,” Advocate Molvi Ajaz said.
He added that the family had no money to hire the lawyer and the matter was brought into the notice of Justice Muzaffar Attar.
“The court asked the Registrar to accept the written document from the family for OWP. Later, the court asked if any lawyer was ready to voluntary his services to the family.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelI was sitting in the court and volunteered myself,” he said.
He added that the family demanded judicial probe in the killing.
“The information I have so far about the matter; police have already ordered some inquiry. The family accuses police of killing Malik. They allege that Malik’s death is custodial killing. So, people at large, politicians and others have demanded judicial probe in the matter,” he said.
He added that no one can be judge in his own case. “When family alleges that the death of Malik is custodial killing in a police lock up, one loses faith on the inquiry conducted by the same police. Their inquiry would be biased, that is natural,” he said.
He added that HC has issued notices to government and directed the SSP Anantnag to produce the status of inquiry on next date of hearing next week. (KNS)
