Girls and tribal women sensitised on menstrual health, hygiene, and breaking social stigma

Tangmarg, July 2(KNS): The Youth Innovation Foundation on Thursday organised menstrual hygiene awareness programmes in the remote areas of Gulmarg, reaching adolescent girls and tribal women through interactive sessions aimed at promoting menstrual health and challenging social taboos.

The awareness programmes were held at Government Middle School Tikiya, Tangmarg, and Government Primary School Kunzar, Ward No. 6. The sessions were conducted by certified menstrual educators Erneeb Zehra and Sidrat Mehraj, who educated participants about menstruation, menstrual hygiene, and the importance of maintaining proper hygiene during menstrual cycles.

Addressing adolescent girls, the educators discussed the physical and emotional aspects of menstruation, emphasising that it is a natural biological process that should be discussed openly without fear or shame. They also highlighted the importance of adopting healthy menstrual hygiene practices to prevent infections and ensure overall well-being.

As part of the initiative, interactive workshops were also organised for tribal women, encouraging them to support and motivate their daughters to speak openly about menstruation, continue their education with confidence, and overcome the stigma associated with menstrual health.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe sessions underscored the need for greater awareness and open communication within families and communities to ensure the health, dignity, and empowerment of young girls.
