Srinagar, Jul 27 (KNS): Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Monday said the Jammu and Kashmir government would not use the Union Territory status as an excuse for failing to deliver on its promises, asserting that it would continue to work for the people regardless of whether statehood is restored.
"We will not use the Union Territory status as an excuse. Whether statehood is restored or not, we will continue to serve the people and fulfil our commitments," Deputy CM told reporters in Srinagar as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS).
He said the entire industrial sector of Jammu and Kashmir, and not just the cricket bat industry, requires greater government support to achieve sustainable growth. Referring to the ?28,400-crore industrial package, he alleged that local industries in Jammu and Kashmir had faced discrimination and deserved equal opportunities.

The deputy chief minister said the Omar Abdullah-led National Conference government had taken up the issue and that CM had already held meetings to address the concerns of local industrialists.
Targeting the BJP, Deputy CM said the party should focus on its own performance instead of criticising the elected government. He alleged that the BJP lacked a clear vision for Jammu and Kashmir and asked its leaders to explain what they had delivered to the people after securing their mandate.
Deputy CM further said the administration would continue to work for the welfare of the people and honour every promise made to them, irrespective of Jammu and Kashmir's constitutional status. (KNS)
