‘Majority of resources including springs, water channels turned into garbage dumping sites’

Bandipora, May 21 (KNS): Over a dozen water resources including springs and water channels have been turned into garbage dumping sites as majority of them have dried up in Bandipora district.

Reports reaching Kashmir News Service (KNS) said that the water channels and spring in several areas including, Ajas, Kehnusa, Ashtangoo, Aloosa, Nadihal and Kema have been turned into dumping sites as the villagers put all garbage of their households into these water resources.

They said that these water resources have not only been choked, but are becoming a major pollutants of the Asia’s largest freshwater lake as these resources get empties into the lake.

A local resident, Abdul Majeed said that people residing around these water resources have made them dumping sites, thereby vanishing these natural resources with their own hands.

He alleged that the authorities too have failed to restore the lost glory of these natural resources as have they been watching as mute spectators.

“Concerned authorities have been making tall claims that the water bodies will be cleaned and preserved, but it is only getting worse with each passing day,” said another local resident. (KNS)
