Vilgam Battalion Organizes Unity Cricket Cup

Srinagar, November 01:(KNS) On the occasion of Unity Day, Vilgam Battalion organised a Blood Donation Camp and cultural events alongwith the final of ongoing Unity Cup Cricket Tournament in Kupwara District. The Blood Donation Camp saw a huge turnout for blood donation that was organised in collaboration with the Red Cross Society of Kupwara. More than 50 people donated blood in the Camp.

The focus of organizing Unity Cup was to engage and elevate the sportsman spirit and brotherhood amidst the youth and also to identify the natural talents, and train and prepare them for State & National trial camps. The tournament commenced
wef 15 Oct 20 and the format followed knockout matches within the pool and the top eight teams were invited to play the quarter final league wef 23 Oct 20. A total of 24 local teams registered for the tournament and inaugural match was played on 15 Oct 20. The event witnessed huge crowd of spectators and was also live streamed on Social Media platforms.

The event included a variety of programs other than the finals of Unity Cup Tournament. The K-Virus, the girls & boys dance group from Srinagar presented cultural dance. Followed by the Taekwondo demonstration by the Young's Club, Srinagar. The local boys of the Vilgam village also put up a display on Wushu and Karate martial art forms on this occasion.

The event was attended by several esteemed guests who are trailblazers in their own fields. Ms Jasiya Akther, the first women cricketer from J & K to be selected for the Indian Women National Cricket Team, Mr Abid Pathan, hailing from Srinagar, the famous Cricket Administrator JKCA, Mr Khan Raja the famous Kashmiri Entertainer & Commentator with huge fan following on social media and Mr Rakesh Kaul, Former Ranji Trophy Player for Jammu and Kashmir (1999-2007).

The events in this grand culmination of the Unity Cup Cricket Tournament, also aligned with the Prime Minister's initiative of "Khelo India- for a better life" and the "Fit India Movement".(KNS)
