Army assures of continuing excellent friendship bond between army and Awam

Handwara October 31:(KNS) On the occasion of Unity day, Unity cricket cup, by army followed by cultural events alongwith Wushu, Karate display concludes on Sunday at the sports field of Haphruda of North Kashmirs Handwara. 

According to a statement issued to *Kashmir News Service,(KNS)* reads, on the occasion of Unity Day, Vilgam Battalion on 31 Oct 21 organised cultural events alongwith Wushu, Karate display, and the final of ongoing Unity Cup Cricket Tournament at Haphruda. 

   The main focus of organizing Unity Cup was to engage and elevate the sportsman spirit and brotherhood amidst the youth and to identify the natural talent. *The celebrations were planned over the entire month of Oct 21 wherein it was kickstarted by ‘ Pedal For Peace’ cycling race on 03 Oct 21.

The event witnessed participation by more than 40cyclist . In order to pioneer the noble cause of women empowerment, ‘ Unity Run For Fun’ was organised on 27 Oct 21 in which 142 girls took active participation. The Unity Cup Cricket tournament commenced wef 16 Oct 2021. A total of 24 local teams followed the knockout series of matches with Lord Gushi team emerging as the overall champions. The event witnessed huge crowd of spectators and was also live streamed on Social Media platforms. During the event chief guest apart from felicitating winners and run up of the cricket team also felicitated *Mrs Tahira Begum , the female covid warrior of the area who was instrumental in covid vaccination in the area going Door to door and first three winners of Run for Unity which was conducted on 27 Oct at Vilgam.

The event was attended by esteemed guests like Mr Danish Manzoor , the best male athlete of Tokey memorial open taekwondo championship (Kyorugi & Poomsae) held in April 2021 and Abid Nabi , famous Ranji Cricket player of Jammu and Kashmir.

Brig AK Pandey, Cdr 8 Sect RR graced the occasion by his presence wherein he interacted with the local population and highlighted the importance of peace, tranquility and development in the Area which during old times was famous for numerous military operations owing to presence of militants. He congratulated all the people of the Taratpura Block for bringing out positive change in the area and assured of continuing excellent friendship bond between military and the Awam.(KNS)
