Srinagar, Jan 17 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir police in Monday claimed to have arrested two militant associates in Awantipora and said to have filed a chargesheet against another militant associate under UAPA before NIA court in Anantnag. 

According to a statement issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), based on a specific input, Awantipora Police along with 42RR and CRPF arrested two militant associates linked with JeM outfit.

They have been identified as Zahid Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Rasool of Naristan Tral and Shakeel Ahmad Malik alias Abu Dujana son of Ghulam Mohammad of Noor Pora Awantipora. 

The statement reads that incriminating materials including explosives have been recovered from their possession. 

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the duo was working as militant associates of JeM and were involved in providing shelter, logistic support and transportation of arms and ammunition to the active militants in Tral and Awantiprora areas. Moreover, they were in touch with Pakistan based self-styled militant commanders on different social media platforms and were planning to join militant ranks,” it reads.

It reads that a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Tral and further investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, as per the statement, Police in Kulgam produced chargesheet against a militant associate identified as Suhail Ahmad in case FIR No 03/2020 of Police Station Behibagh. 

It reads that the case pertains to the terror incident dated 26/09/2020, when militants fired indiscriminately upon police personnel near PS Behibagh. 

“Although, alert police personnel had effectively retaliated but militants had managed to flee from the spot with the help of the said associate and under the cover of darkness. Subsequently, he was arrested by the investigating team and incriminating material including arms & ammunition were also recovered from his possession,” it reads. 

It reads that based on the evidences including digital, collected during the course of investigation, it was revealed that two slain militants of LeT namely Amir Ahmad Mir and Amir Manzoor Ganie along with the said associate were involved in the commission of the crime.

“Accordingly on 15/01/2022, chargesheet of the said case was produced before NIA Court Anantnag for judicial determination,” it reads. (KNS)
