Bandipora, July 22 (KNS): A tragic incident unfolded in north Kashmir's Bandipora district on Wednesday after the body of a 14-year-old boy was recovered from Guzarbal Nallah, while his mother remains missing, prompting a large-scale search operation by the authorities.
The deceased has been identified as Amir Khatana (14), son of late Mehboob Khatana and a resident of Bonibal Tangath, officials said.
The body was recovered from the nallah and shifted to the District Hospital, Bandipora, for medico-legal formalities. Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated inquest proceedings to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the boy's death.
Meanwhile, Tehsildar Bandipora Firdous Ahmad said that the boy's mother, Gudi Begum, is also missing.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe said teams have launched an intensive search operation to trace her, with rescue personnel combing the area in an effort to locate the missing woman.
In the wake of the incident, the district administration has once again appealed to the public to stay away from rivers, streams and nallahs as heavy rainfall continues to raise water levels across the district.
Officials said the Arin and Madhumati nallahs are flowing above normal levels due to persistent rains, and people have been advised to exercise utmost caution and avoid venturing near water bodies until the weather improves.
Further investigation is underway, while the search for the missing woman continues. (KNS)
