Srinagar, Jul 26 (KNS): The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch, Jammu and Kashmir, has filed a chargesheet against three persons in connection with an alleged fake government recruitment racket in which job seekers were duped of ?23 lakh on the false promise of securing government jobs, officials said on Sunday.
The chargesheet was filed before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar, in FIR No. 01/2026 under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), they said.
The accused have been identified as Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh alias Gulzar of Palpora Pamposh Colony, Noor Bagh in Srinagar, Mohammad Yousuf Wani of Kunzer in Baramulla district, and Mohammad Abdullah Mir of Shivath in Sumbal area of Bandipora district.
According to the Crime Branch, the case was registered following a written complaint alleging that Sheikh collected ?23 lakh from the complainants by falsely promising to arrange government jobs for them.

During the investigation, it emerged that the accused allegedly issued forged appointment orders, identity cards, licences, appointment letters, and fake police and CID verification documents to make the job offers appear authentic, officials said.
The investigation found that the three accused acted in connivance with each other to deceive the complainants and illegally obtain their money, they said.
After collecting sufficient evidence, the EOW filed the chargesheet before the court for trial, officials added.
The Crime Branch has advised the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent recruitment schemes and report cases of economic fraud to the Senior Superintendent of Police, EOW Kashmir. Victims can also lodge complaints through the official email of the EOW, it said.(KNS).
