Will look into the matter and try to resolve it on urgent basis: Haris Handoo, Special Secretary to Govt Jal Shakti Dept

Srinagar, Nov 06 (KNS): A week after cancellation order of tenders of 100 crores of Jal Shakti Dept; Special Secretary to Government, Jal Shakti Department Haris Ahmad Handoo said that he will look into the matter and try to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

While talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), he said that, the signature of the district treasury officer who has been appointed as the member of the Jal shakti Contract committee are pending.

"We have asked the Executive Engineer to submit his report about the reasons of the pending signature of the concerned official", he added.

Probably on Monday, "I will again talk to the concerned officials about the same and will try to solve the matter on immediate basis", he assured.

On one hand the Prime Minister Narendra Modi talks about Har Ghar Nal se Jal programme which seeks to ensure drinking water supply to every rural household by 2024.

However, on the other hand the cancelling of tenders worth around 100 crores to be carried out under Jal Jeevan Mission in PHE have contravened the government’s claims of providing water to every rural household.

The bureaucracy has remains the greatest impediment to progress of Jammu and Kashmir. The Centre has launched many schemes for the welfare of people of J&K but the absence of a popular government is taking a toll on the development issues.

It is evident from the cancelling of these tenders which would have proven beneficial for the supply of drinking water to every rural household of Jammu and Kashmir that there is a need of popular governance in J&K so that the ground issues of the common masses can be better understood and resolved through proper framework.

Notably, before a week on Monday Jal Shakti Department Bandipora had cancelled all the tenders worth around 100 crores for which contractors had deposited lakhs of rupees under bank guarantee for acquiring loans for carrying out the works for the same.

The contractors are anguish as they have suffered huge losses due to cancellation of these tenders. They are appealing the Lt Governor to intervene into this matter as it seems that there is some political agenda behind the cancelling of tenders. (KNS)
