Tariq Karra calls upon civil society to keep vigil against attempts to incite people

Sumbal , May 27(KNS): Former Parliament Member and Congress Steering Committee member Tariq Hameed Karra while interacting with members of the Civil Society at Inderkote, Sumbal Sonawari of District Bandipora, lashed out at bureaucratic setup of J&K Administration.

Former Minister Tariq Hameed Karra said that the J&K bureaucracy is safely ensconced in fortress secretariats and does not reach out to people. The traditional methods of bureaucratic handling of a sensitive place like Jammu and Kashmir has proved detrimental for achieving sustainable peace and addressing the discontent at all levels.

Former Minister accused the bureaucracy of scuttling democracy by creating hurdles for allowing Assembly level elections in the State.

There is no accountability in the administration, as a result of which the people are suffering on all fronts. The bureaucracy's connection with the people is at all-time low which has directly impacted in fulfilling the basic requirements of  people.

"The administrative and developmental inertia has led to a chaotic situation. In the current spell of the LG's rule, the people have no access to the top echelons of the administration. On the other hand, the ruling party leaders, for achieving their own ends, are using religion and ethnicity to the hilt as a tool to divide people. They are purposefully forgetting that inclusiveness has always remained as the core philosophy of our country and as a pillar of the concept of Indianism. Thus in contemporary times the Idea of India is of utmost relevance as new clouds of fears, apprehensions and uncertainties are gathering over the nation’s social horizon. I see no way of achieving anything in J&K without a lasting unity between different sections of our society.

Karra pointed out to the members of the Civil Society that we have to keep a thorough vigil against attempts at inciting passions on religious, sub religious and ethnic issues, especially in the run up for elections.

He further added, To undo injustices perpetrated on the people of J&K, we the people shall have to  rise to the occasion and shall forge solidarities irrespective of our caste, creed, religion, region and ethnicity. For this the Civil Society shall have to play an important role of cementing different sections of the society so that the nefarious designs of hate mongers and their divisive policies could be defeated.

The people of J&K are facing enormous issues in the form of unemployment, inflation and poverty. These formidable challenges require us to rise above petty considerations and work together so as to protect political, administrative, social and ethnic rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and to restore our lost honour, dignity and glory.(KNS).
