Srinagar, Aug 5 (KNS): CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Wednesday described the abrogation of Article 370 as a "systematic assault" on the relationship between the Union and the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, alleging that democratic space had continued to shrink since the constitutional changes of August 5, 2019.
In a statement issued on the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, Tarigami claimed that political activity and democratic expression in the Union Territory continued to face restrictions despite the passage of seven years.

He criticised the BJP for projecting the 2019 decision as one of its major achievements and alleged that space for dissent and press freedom had narrowed in Jammu and Kashmir.
The CPI(M) leader also accused the Centre of failing to fulfil its repeated assurances on restoring Jammu and Kashmir's statehood despite commitments made on the issue. He urged the government to honour its promise and restore statehood to the Union Territory.(KNS).
