Jammu, Oct 07 (KNS): Social Activist Sardar Tajinder Singh demand GI Certification of Basmati Rice grow in R.S Pura Jammu,Singh said Basmati Rice has not been given GI Certification to basmati of jammu as govt.of India issued a certificate of GI registration for the saffron grown in kashmir valley,if it has given certification of saffron Why not similar certification to Basmati of R .S Pura Jammu.
in a statement issued to KNS, Tajinder, while terming the decision of the issuance of certificate of GI registration for the saffron grown in kashmir valley as a "Momentous Decision" as it is first step to put saffron produced in kashmir valley on world map with authentication.
However, the farmers across the jammu region which feeling ignored as R.S basmati Rice which has unique flavour and unique aroma and is not available anywhere in the world, the basmati exported to several countries, but still don't have GI registration.tajinder added.
Tajinder said "Rice merchants sell fake basmati rice claiming it to be the best R.S pura basmati which brings bad name to the original growers of R.S pura basmati,singh urged LG Manoj Sinha to take up this issue with union government and help to get GI registration for Basmati Rice of R.S pura (KNS)
