Anantnag, Sept 08 (KNS): Principal Secretary Higher Education Department, J&K Alok Kumar Friday urged upon students to become the torch bearers of the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.

"I call upon students to be the torch bearers of the ideas of Mahatma Gandhi and let know the nation importance of co-existence of harmonious and just society," Alok Kumar told KNS exclusively in south Kashmir's Anantnag where he flagged off Shanti Yatra.

He emphasized upon the need of non-violent means to achieve futuristic goals. "It will be my message to students to opt non-violent means in order to achieve futuristic objectives and goals," he said.

He praised the role of teachers in the department and said, "Though there are certain deficiencies but we are trying our best to  upgrade infrastructure".

"Our students are doing best to prove their mettle," he added.

About Shanti Yatra, he said "This will be a month long Yatra and it will be taken out every day from every school in J&K. We call upon students to be torch bearers of the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi," Alok Kumar added. (KNS)
