“My Youth My Pride” sports initiative being applauded

 SRINAGAR, APRIL 07:(KNS)  Continuing with its streak of activities under “My Youth My Pride” initiative, Sports Council has reached to many far off corners in the region.

A competition in the games of Chess and Volleyball was held in Village Birpur of Jammu today.

The event was aimed at bringing the bet out of the participants has also ensured all possible facilities during competition be provided. Veena Jamwal, Sarpanch Birpur Panchayat appreciated the role of Sports Council for organizing the competition among the Sports person in general and female particular.

She also remarked that, this stepping stone shall help young talent to achieve many milestones in future.

Prem Kumar, former Sarpanch was the guest of honor while as Rajeev Kumar, Headmaster was the special guest on the occasion

Atul Gupta, President Chess association J&K, highlighted the importance of the sports and had word on the knowhow of the chess, giving many tips to players to make them mentally sharp and innovative.

Rajeev Kumar appreciated the efforts of the Sports Council for inculcating the value of sports among the village youth as many programmes of this nature were organized earlier as well.

In chess competition Radhika grabbed 1st place, while as Sumaya Manzoor and Appona Jamwal secured the 2nd  and 3rd  place respectively.

In Volleyball, DATA Talab Sports Club made their day count by defeating Birpur Club by 3 sets to 2.

Divisional Sports Officer Jammu, Ashok Sing along with many respectable citizens of the area and hundreds of spectators were present on the venue.


Meanwhile, in Kashmir Division, first match of the Spring Shield played under the banner of My Youth My Pride was played between MCC Mehind and DCC Darigund. DCC Darigund after opted and scored 173 for loss of 7 wickets. Tajamul top scored with 56 runs while as Aadil and Ashiq contributed 35 and 25 runs respectively. For MCC Mehand, Kafeel and Shahid Ahmad took two wickets each. In reply MCC Mehand was bundled out for 166 runs. Tawkeer, Aijaz and Faisal scored 31,30 and 23 runs respectively. For DCC Darigund Tajamul, Salman,Kaisar and Rouf were amon the wicket takers. Tajamul for his all-round performance was adjudged player of the match.


Another match at the same venue was played between MCC Matipora and Pahalgam Blues. Pehalgam Blues after choosing to bat scored 235 for the loss of 4 wickets on the backing of some useful contributions by Suhail, Mujeeb and Sartaj while as Bilal from he opponents with 3 wickets was among the leading bowlers of or MCC Matipora.


Responding to mammoth 235, MCC Matipora was bundled out for 83 runs and lost the match by 150 Runs. M bass was among the top scorers for MCC Matipora with his contribution of 46 runs. Mujeeb for his all-round performance for scoring 65 runs and bagging 3 wickets was declared man of the match.


Similarly, many events in Thang-ta, Weight Lifting, Wrestling and Tug of War were held at Indoor Sports Stadium Baramulla, where more than 140 players took part which included a good number of females as well. Tawseef Raina, Chairman Municipal Council Baramulla was chief guest and Amandeep Kour, Sarpanch Fatehpora was Guest of honor. The guests encouraged the participants for taking active part in sports.


Principal Secretary Youth Services and Sports Department, Alok Kumar termed the recently launched activities calendar of Sports Council as vibrant.


He said there could not be any better initiatives other than My Youth MY Pride which could add the spark in the drab settings following winter months. Referring this activity schedule to as spring of sports, more competitions for tapping the talent are in offing and all the scouted talent shall be trained under the tutelage of coaches of Sports Council


Secretary Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul while referring to this as an inclusive programme for bringing talent to fore and expanding the base of competitions organized under the banner of Sports Council also reaffirmed government’s vow to reach out to all players in their respective hometowns and elsewhere.(KNS)
