Srinagar, Dec 12 (KNS): Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader, Prof Saifuddin Soz on Monday paid tributes to Moulana Mohammad Sayeed Masoodi on his 26th death anniversary.
In a statement issued to KNS, Soz said that Moulana Masoodi, one of the towering politicians and a scholar of Islam was assassinated at his Ganderbal residence on 13th of December, 1990.
Maulana Masoodi was 87 and he was suffering from cancer.”
“One of Maulana Masoodi’s contributions to public life is his deposition before a Judge Indu Bhushan on October 14, 1946 wherein he had explained to the judge how Kashmiris had fought Mughals, Afghans, Sikhs and Dogras against their (Kashmiris’) subjugation.”
He said that Maulana was spearheading the ‘Quit Kashmir movement’ at that time alongside his late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah.
The Maulana happened to be General Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference.
“Today, I have a feeling that it is possible to have differences with politicians and others, yet it is possible to respect their memories and remember them for various qualities and services in public life,” he said. (KNS)
