Snowfall ends dry spell in Kashmir, MeT predicts more snow

Srinagar, Jan 29 (KNS): After nearly two months of dry weather, the higher reaches of the Kashmir Valley finally welcomed a gentle snowfall on Sunday, bringing delight to residents and tourists. 


Tourist hotspots like Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Doodhpathri, Tangmarg, Gurez Valley, Tragbal, and Kernah witnessed varying degrees of light to moderate snowfall. The Gulmarg ski resort became a playground for tourists capturing memorable moments and expressing joy by playing in the snow.

Srinagar and surrounding areas experienced light rain, breaking the prolonged dry spell and bringing relief to locals. Light rainfall was reported from various parts of the Kashmir Valley. The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar predicts light to moderate rain and snowfall across Jammu and Kashmir in the next 24 hours.

The forecast anticipates the possibility of light to moderate rain or snow in many places in J&K, with heavy snowfall expected in isolated higher reaches of Kashmir Division, including districts such as Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Shopian, Anantnag, and Kulgam from Sunday afternoon to late afternoon on January 29.

Moreover, there's a likelihood of light to moderate rain or snow in several areas from January 30-31, with chances of heavy snowfall in some higher reaches. The weather is expected to remain generally cloudy with light rain or snow in many places towards late afternoon or evening on February 1-2.

Between February 3 and 4, light to moderate rain or snow is forecasted for many places in J&K. 

The Meteorological Office cautions about intermittent light to moderate rain with thunder or lightning in the plains of Jammu Division, accompanied by light snowfall in higher reaches and moderate snowfall in isolated higher reaches from January 28 (night) to January 31 (afternoon).(KNS)
