SKUAST Kashmir holds Virtual Awareness Program on Rabies

Srinagar 27 Sep (KNS):Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Pulwama and Directorate of Extension, SKUAST Kashmir organised World Rabies Day 2020 related one day Virtual Awareness Program on “Educate, Collaborate and Vaccinate” on 26th of September, and was attended by scientists from Veterinary and Medical profession besides research scholars, Para Veterinary staff and officers of Animal/Sheep Husbandry departments.
The program was aimed to promote awareness about rabies and joining United against Rabies initiative in individual and collective capacities. Dr Masarat, Head of the Kendra and Dr M A Paul, Dean Veterinary Faculty highlighted the importance of public education and multi-sectoral involvement in fighting this menace.
Dr M R Fazili, Head Veterinary Clinical Complex, Shuhama and Dr Ruqaya Qounsar, Lecturer Community Medicine, GMC Srinagar threw light on Stray dog population control measures and Kashmir scenario of dog-mediated rabies. Dr M S Mir, Associate Director Extension in his concluding remarks stressed on strengthening community awareness programs to control this trans boundary zoonotic disease. Dr Malik Raies, Dr Aijaz Dar and Dr Nazir Ahmed conducted the technical sessions.(KNS)
