Srinagar, Nov 30 (KNS): The SKIMS Medical College & Hospital, Bemina Srinagar organized this year’s Premier League Football & Cricket Tournaments-2017.
Eighteen teams from Govt. Medical College, Srinagar, Govt. Dental College, Srinagar and SKIMS Medical College, Bemina participated in the tournaments. Award Distribution Ceremony of “SKIMS Medical College Premier League Football & Cricket Tournaments-2017” was held today.
According to the statement issued to KNS, Minister for Technical Education, IT, Youth Services & Sports Molvi Imran Raza Ansari was the Chief Guest on this occasion whereas MLA Batmaloo, Noor Mohammad Sheikh and Saif-ud-Din Bhat attended the function as the Guests of Honour and Prof. M. S. Khuroo, former Director & Dean, SKIMS & Member, SKIMS Governing Body as the Special Guest on this occasion.
Director SKIMS Soura could not attend due to important exigency of patient care related meeting.
During his speech, the Minister highlighted the steps taken by the Government for upliftment and development of the sports activities in the State of J&K.
He complemented the Principal, SKIMS Medical College, Bemina Prof.Reyaz Untoo for his untired and dedicated efforts he has put in for development of the SKIMS Medical College and its hospital and for the revival of the co-curricular and sports activities in the College besides marked improvement in academics and patient care as the load in JVC has increased tremendously, being easily accessible to public.
The minister stated that the proposal submitted by the Principal of SKIMS Medical College, Bemina Prof.ReyazUntoo for development of playing field and sports activities under “Khelo India Scheme” has been approved by the State Government for its placement before the Govt. of India and he assured that the proposal would be approved by the Govt. of India and work on the project shall be taken up immediately after its approval and allocation.
The Minister on spot sanctioned basketball and tense courts for the students of SKIMS Medical College, Bemina as he stressed the need of sports being a part of health related activity.
The Minister also assured full support to the Department of Psychiatry, SKIMS Medical College-Hospital, Bemina for starting “Wellness” Centre in collaboration with the J&K State Sports Council for involving the mentally retarded, distressed and drug addicted persons in different sports activities so that joint efforts are made to bring such people towards the normal life and congratulated Prof Wahid Khan HoD Psychaity for receiving an International award in USA for his care and activities related to children mental health.
Awards and medals were distributed among the winning and runner up teams by the dignitaries and congratulated the organizers. (KNS)
