Shun Suppression, resolve Kashmir issue for lasting peace in the subcontinent: Mehbooba Mufti

Kulgam, August 21 (KNS): The People`s Democratic Party (PDP) today held a workers' meeting of Kulgam assembly constituency. The meeting was presided over by Party President Mehbooba Mufti.

As per the statement issued to Kashmir News Service, addressing the gathering party president Mehbooba Mufti said that if New Delhi is serious about achieving lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir it should restore what was unconstitutionally snatched away from us on August 5, 2019 and initiate comprehensive dialogue to resolve the Kashmir issue at the earliest.

“The issue of Jammu and Kashmir cannot be resolved through the barrel of a gun. Reconciliation and dialogue are the only means available towards securing durable peace in the subcontinent. Resorting to suppression and military means has only further alienated people and shrunk the constituency of those advocating democratic and constitutional means,” Mehbooba said.

Referring to the recent developments in the subcontinent, Mehbooba said that Afghanistan has become a testimony to the fact that unless efforts are made to win the hearts and minds of the people, military might is of no use.

“Delhi has lost the trust of people of Jammu and Kashmir. The only way to win over the people of Jammu and Kashmir is to shun suppressive mindset, restore the rights of people and stop assaults on the identity and Muslim majority character of the state of Jammu and Kashmir,” she added.

Those who attended and addressed the meeting included party General Secretary Dr Mehbooba Beg, senior leader and PAC member Sartaj Madni, party chief spokesperson Suhail Bukhari, Kulgam Constituency Incharge Mohd Amin Dar and senior leader Farooq Ahmed.(KNS)
