Says NC will continue its fight for restoration of people's rights, dignity

Srinagar August 06 (KNS):  The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Women's wing President Shameema Firdous on Saturday asked the women functionaries to shoulder critical responsibilities in the party's fight for the protection of J&K’s unique cultural and political identity.

This she said while presiding over a one day women's convention at Ramban. Among others District President Ramban Sajjad Shaheen, State vice president women wing Bimla Luthra, DDC Chairperson Mrs Shamshada Shan, district president women Wing Ramban Adv Aruna Thakur, DDC counsellor Gulshan Parveen, District secretary women wing Miss Alvira Rashid, Taskeen Fatima besides Adv Arjun Singh Raju, Riyaz Ahmed Mir, Arif Wani, Arshid Mir were present on the occasion.

Addressing the women's functionaries, Shameema said that NC women's wing functionaries have braved all hardships and rallied around the party flag during the worst of times.

“The history of political struggle started by NC would be incomplete without mentioning the contributions of women. Sacrifices made by our women leaders, particularly Madre Meharban occupy the foremost place in our hearts. She fought with true spirit and undaunted courage and faced various tortures, exploitations and hardships to earn us freedom with dignity; that hard earned dignity stands compromised and repudiated with the decisions of August, 5,2019. However, the decisions have heightened our new generation's sense of history. It has become a rallying point for people across J&K to fight for the restoration of their rights, identity and dignity. Our educated girls are also joining the popular peaceful, constitutional and democratic moment led by Dr Farooq sahib against the injustices meted out to us, particularly our young generations,” she said.

Shameema said that the meaningful participation of women in national, local, and community leadership roles has become an important focus on global development policy but NC under the vanguard of Madre Maharban Begum Akbar Jehan had long before anticipated the futuristic global trends and created a ground for it.

“Women’s empowerment had become embroiled in the political ideology of Naya Kashmir envisioned by Sher-e-Kashmir. The years post 47 saw large-scale grassroots level mobilization on ground which benefited women at different levels. The years following the implementation of the NC progressive agenda was marked by women’s changing roles. The policies framed by successive NC-led have played an equally important role in nurturing the mission of Madre Meharban by cultivating modern, progressive, emancipated, skilled, and educated women,” she said.(KNS)
