Srinagar, Jan 07 (KNS): Saying that it is embarrassing to see the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) men clearing snow with shovels, Srinagar Mayor, Junaid Azim Mattu Thursday said SMC has only 15 JCBs and loaders are the only equipments to clear 15,000 lanes across Srinagar.

“He said this while addressing a news conference at his office here.

He admitted that SMC,Mechanical Engineering department, Roads and Building departments clearing the snow on roads could have done better.
Mattu said he will write a letter to LG to ascertain why it took a long to clear the snow on roads.

However, he said that SMC has only 12-15 JCBs and loaders to deal with the situation after snowfall and to clear 15,000 lanes across Srinagar.
He appreciated the SMC men for doing great job on the ground, “It is embarrassing to see the SMC men clearing roads with shovels. I have asked for the procurement of 25 snow clearance machines, but unfortunately, I don’t know why the machines were not procured,” he said. "had machines been procured, the SMC would have been able to clear the snow within 24 hours across Srinagar.

He promised to push for the procurement of machines yet again and will name and shame those officials who are sitting on the papers for no reasons,” he added—(KNS)
