Addresses workers convention at DH Pora; leads a Protest March against incapacity of administration to address people's woes

Srinagar, Nov 24 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference State Secretary Sakina Itoo on Wednesday stated that Jammu and Kashmir has become a byword of unemployment, rising inflation, development deficit and administration inertia.

This she said while addressing a workers convention at Damhal Hanji Pora in South Kashmir's Kulgam District. The convention was marked by massive participation of the party's local unit functionaries.

Addressing the gathering, Sakina Itoo said that every minute in present times proves the failure and incapacity of the incumbent administration in addressing the issues concerning the people. "Truth does not concern this administration, only propaganda does. Truth is that our educated youth are beset with anxiety due to wanton unemployment, people associated with horticulture are at the brink of starvation due to the absence of a responsible and thoughtful government," she said adding that Kashmir has been handed over to those who have no idea of its topography and culture.

She stated that the unemployment bulge is witnessing a major swell in the face of disengagements of employees, mergers of government departments and snail pace recruitments, which has resulted in the  figuring of Jammu and Kashmir among the places facing the highest unemployment rates.

Alluding to sporadic power outages as there are unscheduled power cuts in Kashmir, she said providing basic amenities to people is not in the to-do-list of the incumbent administration. "After a hike in prices of petrol, diesel, LPG cylinders, pulses, vegetables and other things; inflated electricity bills have made the lives of our people miserable," she said.

Pension under various government-sponsored beneficiary schemes and extension of benefits under various welfare schemes, she rued, is not being released on time and that aged and physically challenged people have to wait for months altogether to receive their monthly pensions.

Referring to the arrest on infrastructure upgradation and augmentation, she maintained that the bed capacity of all the health care centers in District Kulgam, and Noorabad in particular has not been augmented to meet the ever growing demands of the rapidly increasing populace. "There have been no additions in the local health care facilities. The regimes post 2015 have failed to keep up with the pace of good work done during Omar sahib led NC government," she added.

"People have been left to fend for themselves. Administration has failed to comport people on every front to redress their multi layered problems," she said.

Expressing serious concern over the deteriorating security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, she said that the incumbent J&K and central government has failed to take effective measures and protect the lives of the citizenry.

Later she led a rally in DH Pora market protesting against the rising inflation, unemployment, shortage of essential commodities. The rally saw massive participation of the party's local unit functionaries, workers, delegates and people from all walks of life. (KNS)
