Srinagar, Jul 29 (KNS): A group of retail textile merchants in Kupwara has formally dissociated itself from an individual claiming to be the president of the textile segment, saying he does not represent the traders and lacks any democratic mandate.
In a memorandum addressed to the Chairman of the Traders Federation Kupwara, the merchants in a statement said they unanimously rejected the claim of Mohd Iqbal Shah of Langoo Textiles to the post of president of the textile segment, alleging that the position was assumed without their consent or knowledge.
The memorandum stated that the traders do not recognise his claim and urged the federation not to treat him as an authentic representative of the textile merchants.
The signatories said he neither speaks for nor represents the collective interests of the retail textile merchants of Kupwara Town.

The traders alleged that recognising such a position would weaken the authority and unity of the General Traders Federation and create confusion within the business community.
They appealed to the Traders Federation Kupwara to take official note of their dissociation, refrain from engaging with him as an authorised representative, and facilitate the establishment of a legitimate, democratically elected leadership for the textile segment. (KNS)
