Baramulla, Aug 03 (KNS) : Jammu and Kashmir Advisor to Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Sogami on Monday said the restoration of statehood to the Union Territory remains an unfulfilled "promise" despite the completion of the delimitation exercise and assembly elections.

 

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function here at Baramulla Sogami as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) said the Centre had given a sequence of assurances, but only the first two had been honoured.

 

"It was said in sequence that first there will be a delimitation, then there will be an election, then there will be a statehood. Both things have been accepted — delimitation has been done, election has been done — but the issue of statehood has not been resolved yet," Sogami said.

 

He recalled that a delegation of the party's top leadership, along with legislators and supporters, had recently staged a protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar to remind the government of its commitment.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel"We took the first step. We went to Delhi's Jantar Mantar. Our entire top leadership went, our MLAs went, all the people gathered there because we went to remind them that the promise they had with us is not being fulfilled," he said.

 

The Advisor asserted that the party would not relent on the demand and termed statehood a prerequisite for addressing other issues. "Now our leadership and other colleagues will sit. The rest of the work will be done. This is not a matter of one day. Until we get our statehood back, we will continue our work," he said.

 

"Where will you come down from the statehood? First restore statehood, then all this will be done," Sogami added.(KNS)
