Resolve by LG to establish peace needs to be converted into reality: Chrungoo

Jammu, Oct 10 (KNS): Senior BJP and KP leader, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo has said that the resolve expressed by LG Manoj Sinha to establish peace in Kashmir needs to be converted into reality on the ground.

In a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Chrungoo said that it is gratifying to note that the government has reiterated its position that the peace won't be purchased but established and maintained.

Chrungoo, as per the statement, was addressing a webinar on the topic, "Current security scenario in J&K and the Pandit minorities".

“Prominent among those who were participating in the webinar included senior KP leader, Utpal Kaul, human rights expert, Dr Rajat Mitra, senior KP leader, Virender Raina and known educationist, Prof Ritu Bakshi.”

He said that the majority community of Kashmir is supposed to assume responsibility and oppose such gruesome killings openly and without any fear.

"The efforts of the government and the administration need support of the society at large. If the society remains silent, it will appear that there is connivance of the society with the selective killings of the minorities in the valley. There is no doubt that terrorism has developed a trap for the majority community in the valley due to a fake narrative of religious connotation. It is for the political leaders, religious figures, intellectuals, social organisations and the media figures among the majority community to bring the society out of this trap and react fearlessly against the genocide of minorities in the valley,” Chrungoo said.

He said that it is not the situation of 1989-90, when the tragic killings of minorities would be eclipsed under the shadow of political narratives created by the then vested interests.

"I will make an appeal to the Lt. Governor and the government to announce an ex-gratia relief of fifty lakhs to the next of the kin of the slain minority community members in the UT and also a government job to their dependents. This will ensure both their survival and existence and will also send an appropriate message on behalf of the government to the society.”

He also said that the minority community in valley needs to be provided with a sense of security by improving upon the overall security environment in Kashmir.

“The expression to defeat terrorism should be visible and stark in order to instil confidence among the peaceful citizens of the society,” he said. (KNS)
