Demands implementation of Street Vendors Protection of Livelihood and Regulation for Street Vending Act

Srinagar, Jan 04 (KNS): Peoples Conference youth president, Sheikh Imran on Tuesday demanded proper and transparent rehabilitation of street vendors and implementation of Street Vendors Protection of Livelihood and Regulation for Street Vending Act. 

According to a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Imran said "street vendors are our brothers as they are amongst us, we can’t be mute spectators to their illegal eviction, we demand their proper and transparent rehabilitation."

He said that the government should implement “Street Vendors Protection of Livelihood & Regulation of Street Vending Act”. "No street vendor should be evicted till the survey is complete and the certificate of vending is issued to them and the same data is widely published transparently."

He also said that Town Vending Committee should immediately be constituted with members from all council, departments, street vendors etc. and a proper mechanism of eviction and rehabilitation should be done through this TVC in a transparent manner for the eviction and rehabilitation.

"Furthermore, we have no right to snatch usual earning source from street vendors, therefore, we should devise a fool-proof plan to rehabilitate them and economically empower them so that they can see their future from street vendors to shopkeepers," he said. (KNS)
