Kupwara, Aug 1(KNS) : The Rural Development Department (RDD), Kupwara, has emerged as the backbone of the district's development initiatives, registering remarkable progress in the implementation of CAPEX works and significantly contributing to Kupwara's emergence as the leading district in the Kashmir Division in terms of development performance.

 

The department's achievements were highlighted during the District Administration's CAPEX review meeting, where officials presented the latest progress on developmental works being executed across the district.

 

Official data revealed that the RDD has undertaken 2,520 development works, of which 2,240 have been tendered and 1,182 works have already been allotted for execution. In a notable administrative achievement, the allotment process has been completed by the beginning of August this year, whereas during the previous financial year, similar allotments were made only in December, allowing developmental works to commence several months earlier.

 

The department is implementing projects with an estimated outlay of ?45.66 crore under various funding components, including Revenue CAPEX (?2.50 crore), Tribal Development (?1.50 crore), SSY (?2.30 crore), Education (?1.30 crore), ABDS (?1.84 crore) and other schemes (?1.10 crore).

 

The projects span a broad range of public infrastructure and community assets, including the construction of public buildings, water bodies, borewells, lanes and drains, protection bunds, link roads and other essential rural infrastructure aimed at improving connectivity and the quality of life in far-flung villages.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

 

Officials said the accelerated pace of implementation reflects the district administration's focus on timely execution and efficient utilisation of public funds.

 

The Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara, while reviewing the progress, appreciated the department's performance and noted that the consistent execution of developmental projects has played a pivotal role in strengthening the district's development profile.

 

Despite facing a significant shortage of manpower, the department has continued to deliver impressive results. While Kupwara requires 24 Block Development Officers (BDOs) for effective functioning, only eight BDOs are currently in service. Nevertheless, the department has successfully maintained the momentum of developmental works through efficient planning and close monitoring.

 

The department's performance is being viewed as a key factor behind Kupwara securing the top position in the Kashmir Division on the development graph, underscoring the administration's commitment to ensuring faster and more effective delivery of public infrastructure across one of Jammu and Kashmir's most geographically challenging districts.
