Rain lashes J&K, brings respite from scorching heat

Srinagar, July 19(KNS): Jammu and Kashmir on Monday received rainfall, thus bringing the temperature down in the valley, officials said on Monday. 

An official told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the weather will remain overcast in most of J&K and may trigger flashfloods in some area as already predicted by weather department. 

He said that the sky is overcast and a cool breeze has brought respite from the high temperatures, which was prevalent for the past several days. 

The official said that the rain and the mild cloudbursts triggered flash floods in a few areas of South Kashmir and Jammu. 

Meanwhile, reports suggest that water entered into several houses at Pehru area of Anantnag after heavy rainfall this morning. 

The gauge reading, water level of Lidder Nallah at Batkoot was 1.55m, 0.05m above the 'Flood Declaration' mark and just 0.10m below the 'Danger Mark'.

He said that intensity of rain Likely to increase from today Afternoon up to Wednesday morning and gradual decrease thereafter. 

"Kashmir Valley Likely to receive heavy rain during next 3 days ,south kashmir may receive more rains as compared to central and north kashmir and jammu,” he said. (KNS)
