‘Government’s idea of development fails to reach ground’

Anantnag 17 january (KNS) : Apni Party General Secretary and former MLA Pahalgam Rafi Ahmad Mir today demanded regularisation of services of daily wagers, daily-rated workers and other categories of appointees working in different government departments.

Mir said this while welcoming scores of prominent political activists into the party fold from Khayar, Aishmuqam area of South Kashmir.

In a statement issued  to news agency-kashmir news service(KNS), Mir said that Government’s idea of development and progress is seen nowhere on ground, our people continue to suffer.

"Daily wagers are in despair as their economic conditions have worsened due to government’s indifferent attitude,” Mir said. He further added that "amid this growing uncertainty due to lack of a viable policy, government’s hollow claims of development and progress only add to the sufferings of people of J&K.

Lashing out at the Jammu and Kashmir administration, Mir said that a ‘false’ and ‘imaginary’ notion of development in J&K is being floated by the government on social media platform, while as there has been no major development so far. Our people have no access to the corridors of secretariat and their grievances are not being redressed at any level.

Rafi Mir said that the absence of a robust redressal mechanism has made a mockery of government programmes and the mission of “equitable development” is not moving beyond papers.

Mir said, our sincere effort is to work collectively with the people and bring back the socio-economic and political stability in the region but the government will also have to show some sense of responsibility and political will to ease out these sufferings of people.

He demanded that the daily wagers working in various departments for more than 25 years be regularised.

Terming them as ‘frontline warriors’ in every situation in J&K, Mir said it is unfortunate that all the casual labourers, daily wagers, ITI workers and other types of temporary workers are not even paid their wages on time.

In absence of an elected government people feel the need of having a credible voice that could take up their issues and I am of firm belief that striving for public issues is better than remaining silent”.

Mir was addressing the party workers at a joining ceremony in Khayar Aishmuqam area of District Anantnag (KNS).
