Protest in Udhampur over targeted killing of man in Anantnag

Srinagar, May 30(KNS):Scores of people on Tuesday took to the streets in Udhampur district of Jammu region, protesting the targeted killing of a man by terrorists in Anantnag on Monday night.

 

Deepu, a resident of Udhampur in Jammu, was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne youths from a close range at around 8:30 pm near Jagland Mandi in Anantnag town when he had gone to a market to purchase milk. According to the police, he was working at a private circus mela at an amusement park in Anantnag.

 

The protesters gathered at Batal Chowk, effectively blocking Dhar Road while voicing their strong opposition against Pakistan through slogans. A profound sense of grief engulfed Majalta upon learning about his tragic demise, casting a shadow of despair over the entire family who relied heavily on him.

 

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has condemned the terrorist attack on a civilian in Anantnag. He extended his condolences to the family of martyred civilian Deepu.The LG said the Government and entire nation is standing shoulder to shoulder with the family. “Our security forces remain committed in their resolve to thwart the designs of terrorists and all efforts will be made to bring the perpetrators to justice,” the Lt Governor said and has also approved an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin.

 

Furthermore, the Union minister, Dr Jitendra Singh said that while on a visit to Chennai, I was extremely shocked to learn about the brutal killing of young Deepu who hailed from Majalta, district Udhampur and was earning meagre livelihood in Anantnag. 

 

"BJP Karyakartas have already reached the house of the bereaved family to provide all possible help. While strongly condemning the killing of this youth from a poor family, it is strongly urged that strict security measures be enforced to prevent such target killings and also to act as a deterrent against terror activities," he said.

 

Also the Chairman Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) Ghulam Nabi Azad has strongly condemned the killing and said that terrorism is a menace that needs to be fought by all collectively.

 

Azad tweeted, “Strongly condemn the heinous act of killing Deepu of Udhampur by terrorists in Anantnag. Terrorism is a menace that needs to be fought by us collectively. It is a curse against humanity!” Azad expressed solidarity with the victim family and urged upon the authorities to bring the culprits to justice.

 

Similarly,  NC president,  Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah strongly condemn the heinous killing of an innocent civilian in Anantnag. They express their unequivocal disapproval of such despicable acts of violence,which not only tarnish our shared humanity but also betray the principles of NC. The entire JKNC community stands united in support of the victim's family,offering solidarity during this tragic time.

 

"Deeply anguished by yet another attack on an innocent civilian in Anantnag. Deepu eked out his living by working at an amusement park. My heart goes out to his family in this hour of grief. This speaks volumes about GOI’s policy which have been a monumental failure in J&K," said PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti in a tweet.

 

Meanwhile, CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami in a tweet said that,  "Condemning in no uncertain terms  the killing of Deepu in south Kashmir’s Anantnag town. The poor man was working miles away from his home to scrap a living. Such bestial acts won't achieve anything. Sharing the pain and grief of the bereaved family".

 

"Strongly condemn the cowardly act of killing an innocent civilian. My heartfelt condolences to his family. Swift actions must be taken to bring the perpetrators to justice. Let's stand Together against terror and violence," the Apni party chief, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari said.

 

"The killing of Deepu by terrorists in Anantnag is yet another incident of savagery. In wonderment how does the killing of a civilian help anybody. Deepu was here in search of livelihood for himself and his family. And May Allah burn in hell those thugs who killed him," People's conference chief, Sajad Gani Lone said.(KNS).
