Srinagar, May 17: Indian politicians are taking more interest in "dividing people" and are trying to hide its failures on developmental issues, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Ex VC JK Cements Ltd said on Sunday.

In a statement issued to KNS , Er Nazir Yatoo said that, "When these politicians fail to do developmental work in their respective areas, they start dividing people on communal lines."
“The country will suffer, and we all will also suffer if such people will be given chance in future,” Yatoo added. “These politicians are bereft of any principle and commitment, and their only agenda is to divide the people on communal lines,” he said.
Our country's strength lies in its diversity. The right for all religions to co-exist is enshrined in this country's constitution. But many fear the current political climate is compromising that basic secular principle.
"When the ruling politicians take more interest in dividing people and doing politics, then we must investigate as to on which fronts it has failed miserably. What is its failure that it wants to hide from the public," Er Nazir Yatoo said.
The prime minister of a country belongs to all the religions, people and states. He belongs to the entire country. But the leaders in his party Continuously post indirectly making statements (aimed at) creating a religious discord, which is a worrisome thing," he said.
As a consequence, the country has become a progressively more frightening and dangerous place to live in for minorities of various kinds – religious, national, racial, linguistic, and ethni – as well as for left and liberal dissidents. As fear, violence and state bias become increasingly normalised for minorities in country.
"It is sobering to remember that India is still unique because of the rise of one particular kind of hate violence that targets its religious and caste minorities: lynching. In the past few years, India has seen several instances of lynchings in which frenzied mobs have targeted people mainly because of their religious or caste identity – for being Muslim or Dalit. This is part of a larger surge of hate crimes that is corroding social peace and trust across the country," Yatoo said.
Yatoo said that instead of using their power to ensure safety of people, such politicians are making biased statements for their personal interests and are trying to terrorise a section of the society.
With an increase in hate crimes against minorities in India in recent years, some fear the world's largest democracy is becoming dangerously intolerant, PDP leader added.(KNS)
