‘Govt fails to fulfill our demand’

Srinagar, Dec 03 (KNS): Police on Saturday detained scores of members of the J&K Handicapped Association after they tried to march towards commercial Hub Lal Chowk to protest against the failures of government in fulfilling their demands.
The physically disabled persons on the ‘World Disabled Day’ assembled at Srinagar’s press enclave and chanted slogans against the government. They were demanding fulfillment of their demands.
However, as soon as the protesting members tried to march towards commercial Hub Lal Chowk, police swung into action and detained scores of its members.
Earlier, the protesters told KNS that the government should restrict the workplace of handicapped employees to a radius of 5 kms so that they are able to perform their duties without any hindrance. “We are being are being discriminated against our special status,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
They said that due to ignoring their plights the government has left them on god’s mercy. “We are facing tremendous hardships due to the government apathy. The government must not avoid our sufferings and should restrict the workplace of handicapped employees to a radius of 5 kms,” they said.
Meanwhile, the disabled persons said that despite government announced a pension of Rs 1000 per month to handicapped persons and widows; they are still getting RS 400 per month
They said that the announcement made by the government proved hoax on the ground as they continue to receive Rs 400 per month.
Protesters said that the meager amount of Rs 400 is not enough for them. “The government must provide a sum of Rs 5000 per month to disabled persons,” they demanded. (KNS)
