Police arrests 03 drug peddlers across Kashmir; Contraband substances recovered

Srinagar February 14:(KNS)  Continuing its efforts to curb the menace of drugs from the society, Police in a series of actions have arrested 03 drug peddlers in Ganderbal, Awantipora & Handwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A Police party from PS Kheerbawani at a checkpoint established at Shallabugh and intercepted a suspicious person identified as Umar Rashid Laway son of Ab Rashid resident of Shallabugh Ganderbal. During checking, officers were able to recover 3.7 Kgs of crushed Cannabis from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

In Awantipora, a police party from PS Pampore at a checkpoint established at Kadlabal Pampore and intercepted a suspicious person identified as Mohd Ayoub Akhoon son of Bashir Ahmad Akhoon resident of Tulbagh Pampore. During checking, officers were able to recover 5.7 grams (suspected to be Heroin) from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Meanwhile in Handwara, 4kgs of cannabis was recovered during search operation launched by police parties of PP & PC Langate in Village Guloora Langate. The contraband substance was found concealed in a suspicious bag in the shop of Mohd Akbar Malik son of Mohd Abdulla Malik resident of Guloora. The accused has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective Police Station and further investigation has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.(KNS)
