Srinagar, Aug 17 (KNS): The police on Tuesday allegedly beat up media men while covering a Muharram procession in Jahengir Chowk locality in the capital city of Srinagar. 

Reports reaching Kashmir News Service (KNS) said that scores of media men were trashed while performing their duties at Jahengir Chowk, where a Muharram procession was held. 

They said that policemen from a nearby police station beat up media men for reasons best known to them (police). 

Meanwhile, Kashmir Zone police, while quoting IGP Kashmir on its official Twitter handle said:  "We #respect the religious #sentiments and practices of all but at the same time it is also our joint #responsibility to defeat the ill designs of vested interest who try to disturb #peaceful atmosphere."
